How To Find Best Domain Names

There was a time when I used to own like 100 domains (most of them I never used) because I was under the impression that those domains have value only later on realizing that they have no value and there is on point in wasting money in renewing them, so I let them go. I have also seen domains being sold for $150k so I can safely say that I know a thing or two of finding perfect domain names for your next site or blog.

These tips are only for finding best and suitable domain names for generic sites, don’t register them thinking you can sell them later for huge profit.

1. Since all the keywords and keyword combination related domains are already taken, you are better of gong with branding. Chose a web 2.0 domain name like mwolk (its already taken) which is very generic so you can use it for anything.

2. The domain name has to be short – 4 character domain names are costly but you can get 5 character domain names for cheap or can register them (I am sure some 5 character domain names are still left). No one likes to type and remember long domain names so avoid them.

3. Get as many vowels as possible – The more vowels you can get like a, e, i, o and u, the better the domain will sound. It is also a good thing to have them at alternate position as it is considered to help in pronunciation.

4. Should be easy to pronounce – This is a must as a domain which is not easy to pronounce can never a great domain name. Avoid characters like j,k, x, y, z, q etc. Also if possible, avoid digits too, they don’t look that good on domain names.

5. Get the .com – unless you are targeting local markets like UK or Australia, always look to have .com domain names. People may say that .org and .net are also good but .com just stands out. Even if you are planning to use .uk or .au or any such tld, still buy .com version of it too so in future no one can steal your brand. The last thing you want is to pay thousands of dollars to pay for .com version of domain just because you tried to save $10 in the beginning.
